Some people feel the need to change jobs because they want to be able to grow as individuals, some to earn more and some to follow their passions.

If you find yourself in this situation, there is nothing that preparation and planning cannot make easier.

Stick to Your Decision

Changing jobs, especially in the tough economic situation we are currently in may sound like a bad idea to a lot of people and not just people, people you actually care about and trust. Their opinions may affect your decision and can confuse you. However, if you know what you’re doing and you are sure that it’s the right thing to do, stick to your decision. This will show everyone that it’s not just a phase and that you are truly serious about taking on this big step.

Spend Time in Drafting Your CV and Cover Letter

Your CV is your sales pitch. If you don’t have a job waiting for you, you might want to spend a lot of time creating a fool proof CV. Your CV will be your most important weapon in your job hunt. So make sure that it highlights all of your achievements and experiences. It would also be of great help for your prospects of landing a job if you write a cover letter that will explain why you are switching jobs. Most hiring managers will see this as a red flag and might actually get an impression that you are a person who is indecisive. Be as honest as possible in your application.

Stay True to Yourself

If you are changing jobs because your previous one was not what you envision yourself to be doing or if you feel like it’s suffocating you, your next one should be the total opposite of that. The only way you will be able to land a job that resonate your personality is by being true to yourself. Apply for jobs that you know suits you, where you will be able to excel and do things that you were not able to do in your previous job. You may not get the chance to change jobs again in the future.

Know what your strengths are

If you know what your strengths are and build your confidence based in that, you will be able to excel in your new job faster and be more productive as well. You have proven yourself in your previous job already and this time around, it’s all about highlighting those skills that you know you are good at and harness them even more. Go through a self-assessment check and consult a career counsellor regarding the possible jobs that will suit your strengths.
