Data Handling & Automation ·Maintenance and development of daily Merchandising database update operations ·Integration of ERP, CRM, task management and other data into ‘single view’ datasets to enable streamlined reporting (similar to datawarehousing operations but on a smaller scale) Reporting & Analysis ·Production of automated reports for internal and external customers, using a variety of tools – the selection being dependent on the nature of the report required. ·Analyse SCC datasets to identify cause and effect, spot areas of opportunity to grow the business or improve internal processes Master Data ·Detailed knowledge and understanding of key SCC datasets; what information is available internally and externally, what is possible to achieve given the data sources available, where gaps exist and work to address them; using data manipulation such as through the Transform Engine to clean and rationalise data o Manufacturer o Categorisation (core categorisation, also financial views including business component, commission tiering and overlay category) o Organisation * Customer (including Sector & Contact) * Supplier o Item (ERP system, CNET rich data, supplier feeds) Ad hoc stuff, including · Work with ERP transition projects · Sporadically assist IT department with data validation when migrating from one system to another · Covering work for colleagues (MI, Phub reporting etc) · Briefing Customer Data Management team with data cleansing tasks, assisting with queries they have in their role processing new customer setups etc · Innovate new datasets and pilot the use of new automation and data handling techniques Key Skills, Experience & Person Profile · Razor-sharp attention to detail. Almost every CV claims strong attention to detail – but we’re looking for somebody who really means it! If you can remember where you put a needle in a haystack – you might be ideal. Consistency and precision is key. · A logical and creative, numerate brain able to manipulate data, to come up with surprisingly good solutions to problems, with strong critical thinking skills that can perceive logical flaws and get to the heart of how processes work. · Advanced Excel, VBA and SQL are the main tools of our trade – also automation using tools like SSIS, SSRS and others. · Sponge-like brain with a talent for research - You will need to absorb new technical skills and new information quickly, as well as able to develop your own skills and dig up solutions online. · Commercial acumen is vital for a successful analyst. Technical skills only take you so far - you’ll be handling financial, operational, ERP and CRM data and need to understand the purpose of each. You will need to be familiar with general business practices, and quickly get to grips with how our large organisation works. You’ll need to build up a good understanding of our customers too, so that you know how best to serve them. SCC is a major supplier to Government at all levels, so an understanding of how the Public Sector fits together would be beneficial. · Good communication skills are a must – interpersonal and written are a given in most jobs but for an analyst, your graphical presentation and layout of tabular data must be clear and concise, conveying information effectively. Any familiarity with creating performance dashboards would be useful. · Analytical ability – simply reporting data is not enough. A good analyst will be able to dig through the data to identify reasons for outcomes, to spot trends and catch when something doesn’t look right – and then rectify the problem, recommend a solution or at least flag it for review. · Tenacity and flexibility – don’t expect all the data you need to be ready and waiting for you – sometimes customers demand information that doesn’t neatly fit with how our data is structured. You need the determination to pursue solutions that work for both SCC and the customer – this may mean initiating operational changes in SCC or implementing data cleansing procedures to achieve the desired results.
